The Government of Tamil Nadu, in its G.O.(Ms.) No.857 Public (Noon Meal G.O.No.1) dated 28.05.1982,G.O.(Ms.) 858 Public (Noon Meal G.O.No2) Dated 28/05/1982 and G.O.(Ms.) No.901 Public (Noon Meal G.O.No.3) Dated 04.06.1982 have introduced a scheme for Providing Nutritious Meal to school going Children of 2 two 9 age group w.e.f. 01.07.1982. The Scheme was extended to the school going students of age group 10 to 15 with effect from 15.09.1984.
The Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation undertakes supply of food commodities to the Noon Meal Centres with effect from 01.07.1982.
Besides Children, old age pensioner, and pregnant women are also being covered under Nutritious Meal Scheme with effect from 15.01.1983 and 07.12.1995 respectively.

The Public Distribution System is implemented through 33,222 fair price shops functioning under the various agencies are as follows:-

Dhall, Black Bengal Gram, Green Gram and Palmolein Oil required for this scheme are being purchased by TNCSC through open tender by following the instructions laid down in the Tamil Nadu Transparency in the Tender Act 1998 and Rules 2000.
As for as Iron Fortified and Double Fortified Salt is concerned, the same is being purchased directly from M/s.Tamil Nadu Salt Corporation at the rate notified by the Government.
The GOI have sponsored a scheme called "Annapoorna" for providing food grains to the indigent Senior Citizens aged 65 years. The Government of Tamil Nadu is implementing this scheme from the year 2002-2003. Under this scheme, the eligible beneficiaries are being supplied 10 kg of rice on free of cost.
Monthly Government of India allotment : 720 M.Ts.
As per the orders of the Government, transport charges at Rs.50/- per quintal is settled by the District Collectors
The Sri Lankan Refugees are accommodated in the various refugee camps in Tamil Nadu. For their rehabilitation the State Government have issued orders for the supply of rice at subsidised rate of Rs.0.57 paise per Kg. to the refugees.
The differential cost between economic issue price and the subsidised rate at which the rice is supplied to the refugees is collected from the District Collectors concerned by presenting necessary claims every month.

The Tamil Nadu State Government videl G.O.Ms.174 SW & NMP (SN7) dated 27-11-2002 issued orders to purchase the following Nutritious commodities for preparation of Weaning Food under the World Bank Assisted Integrated Child Development Scheme III and for supply to the identified Integrated Child Development areas in this State covering 16 Districts.

In addition to the above, the Food Corporation of India is allotting Wheat under this Scheme as per the Indents furnished by the Weaning Society and the same is being lifted by the TNCSC Limited from the FCI depots and supplied to the Weaning Societies. The quantity of Wheat allotted under this scheme by the FCI for the year 2006-2007 is 5368 M.Ts.
Rationed commodities, like Rice, Sugar, Wheat and non-rationed commodities such as Toor Dhall and Urid Dhall are supplied to the personnel of Police, Prison, Fire, Vigilance and Anti-corruption and Forest services upto the rank of Inspectors at the subsidised rates as under.
